AIA New York Hosts Lecture on Nathaniel Owings

On Monday, March 26th, the New York City chapter of the American Institute of Architects will host a lecture titled “The Amazing Career of Nathaniel A. Owings (1903-1984).” Architectural historian Nicholas Adams will discuss Owings’ legacy as a founder of SOM and his work as an “early environmentalist and preservation-minded urban planner.”

Adams is the Mary Conover Mellon professor in the Art Department at Vassar College. He is the author of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill: The Experiment Since 1936 and is currently writing a biography of SOM’s Gordon Bunshaft. His essays on SOM have appeared in the Italian architectural magazine Casabella.
