Carl Galioto FAIA, Technical Partner |
"The most elegant design process is one that is performative and parametric, integrating building systems, assemblies, and materials into a rational expression."
Carl Galioto is the partner-in-charge of SOM/New York's Technical Group and is responsible for building science design—an area that includes digital design, quality assurance, cost control, code compliance, exterior wall development, material research, and the integration of building services and structural systems in the early design phases of projects, in addition to construction documents and construction administration.
Mr. Galioto chairs the SOM Technical Managing Committee and has been responsible since 1998 for the creation and implementation of firmwide standards for documentation, specifications, General Conditions, and procedures for construction administration services.
Another of Mr. Galioto’s areas of expertise is the implementation of security and special life safety designs for complex buildings. He is a member of the New York City Model Code Program Managing Committee that is advising the Mayor and Buildings Commissioner on the creation of a new building code for New York City, and a member of the New York City Fire Department Advisory Committee. Mr. Galioto is also a member of a special task force convened by the National Institute of Building Sciences to draft recommendations for high rise codes of the future.
Mr. Galioto continues to be a leader in the development of Digital Design, including Building Information Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation.
Involved in the restoration of several of SOM’s most notably iconic designs, he is a frequent lecturer on the restoration of modern landmarks.
