Now in its sixth year, the MAS Summit for NYC convenes designers and civic leaders for a wide-ranging discussion on the future of the city. SOM Design Partner Roger Duffy and Associate Director Christopher Cooper both spoke at this year’s event, which features more than 50 expert sessions on topics including urban innovation, resilience, infrastructure, and development.
Duffy offered a retrospective of SOM’s long history of engagement with Manhattan’s West Side, highlighting the firm’s recent projects that play a major role in the area’s transformation. Cooper contributed his high-rise design expertise to a panel discussion on the development of supertall towers in Manhattan, assessing their impact on the civic experience and the trade-offs that must be considered between public benefit and private profit.
Organized by the Municipal Art Society of New York, the Summit continues through Friday, October 23, 2015 at The TimesCenter in New York.
