National Museum of the United States Army

Washington, District of Columbia

Located on a heavily-wooded site at Fort Belvoir, the museum is designed to highlight the relationship between the Army and the land. The architecture expresses this relationship by abstracting the narrative of the soldier's activities—such as sitting in trenches, ducking for cover, marching, fighting—to form allegorical spaces. The design allows visitors to explore the soldier's sensory experience as he/she interacts with the land.
