A Director in the New York office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, Mark Igou, AIA, LEED® AP is a leader in advanced building technologies. With 20 years of project experience, Mr. Igou brings his expertise in business development and in project management to projects around the globe, including work in India, China, the Middle East, and the United States. He is a leader in developing SOM’s presence in India, where his ongoing projects include The Park Hotel and Hill County SEZ , both in Hyderabad. He is also managing several large urban planning projects for new communities in and around Hyderabad and Mumbai. For Jet Airways, Mr. Igou is working on the company’s Corporate Headquarters, the Chairman’s Residence, and Lounges in Brussels, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
Many of Mr. Igou’s projects have required innovative design solutions, including specialized materials and advanced building systems. In each project, he strives to use the latest sustainable design methods to create buildings that are sensitive to the environment, yet fully compatible with each client’s schedule, budget, and functional needs. The U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland was recognized for its creative sustainable design in Architectural Record (November 2007) and Imported Wood (2007) and received awards from AIA New York City and New York State chapters.
Mr. Igou’s experience encompasses a broad range of projects. In 2002 Mr. Igou began working with artist James Turrell on transforming Roden Crater, an extinct volcano in Flagstaff, Arizona, into a unique naked-eye observatory. At Changi Airport in Singapore, he served as project manager for a complex, multi-phase transportation project. He served as Visiting Professor at the University of Pennsylvania in 2006-2007 and is teaching a course on “High Performance Materials and Systems” in the Spring of 2008.
