Leigh Breslau

AIA, Design Partner

Leigh Breslau is a design partner in the Chicago office of SOM. He focuses on arts and public assembly projects, and frequently collaborates on the firm’s large scale mixed-use and master planning projects. His work is found throughout the United States as well as internationally.

Mr. Breslau’s design concepts are often responsive to the surrounding context, transforming and translating the natural landscape. As predominantly civic projects, they contribute positively to the urban environment, and often re-interpret their cultural and historical surroundings. Just as importantly, they are designed “from the inside-out,” creating idealized facilities that support the needs and aspirations of each client.

He recently completed the award-winning Virginia Beach Convention Center and is currently working on the Dallas City Performance Hall. Other recent projects include the renovation of Orchestra Hall and expansion of that facility into the new Symphony Center in Chicago; a conceptual design for Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York; on-going renovations to Ravinia Festival, an outdoor music facility outside of Chicago; master plans for the Avery Fisher Hall renovation at Lincoln Center in New York; and the Millennium Park in Chicago.

In January 2007, Mr. Breslau’s design came alive on stage with his design of the set for The Court Theatre’s production of Anton Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya.” The design received critical acclaim and Variety Magazine raved, “For a first-time stage designer, architect Leigh Breslau makes a startling impression with the set of this visually unusual, intriguingly frantic ‘Uncle Vanya.’”

In addition to his commitment to Performing Arts and Assembly facilities on an architectural level, Mr. Breslau is an accomplished musician.
