SOM's Master Plan for Ebbsfleet aims to create a vibrant and sustainable community that will form an essential element of the Thames Gateway east of London. SOM’s Ebbsfleet Master Plan creates an animated town center for a modern age. New, vital, and comfortable residential communities draw from the transport interchange, and are set amidst historic landmarks, ancient monuments, and a beautiful countryside.

The plan establishes a framework for strategic decision-making over the 20-year lifespan of the development, and defines clear principles that ensure high-quality urban design that will exert a powerful influence on the evolution of Ebbsfleet and its surrounding area.

The three-dimensional plan also incorporates a comprehensive strategy for future roads, public places, community parks, and an integrated sustainable community of mixed uses, services, and local amenities.

Clear phasing and implementation strategies address the complexity of redeveloping the site, improving the existing infrastructure, and forecasting the intricate “lift and shift” of station car parks to create future development districts.

The Master Plan meets the goals and objectives outlined by the Thames Gateway initiative to deliver sustainable communities; the creation of a new regional City Center will provide a strong economic link between the U.K. and Continental Europe.
